Although it’s a typical soup from the northern region of Portugal, Caldo Verde is known throughout the whole of Portugal.

Made from the typical kale leaves indigenous to the country, its taste and fame have won it the moniker of one of the 7 wonders of Portuguese gastronomy. The simplicity and lightness of the soup make it perfect to eat before any meal or as a late night snack.

Caldo Verde is almost always served in a clay bowl and is usually accompanied by chorizo. It’s the perfect comfort soup to have on a cold winter day, sitting by the fireplace and watching a movie.
