Praia – Sea, Salt and Pepper
Heading South from Lisbon, crossing over the 25th of April suspension bridge, and after only a couple of minutes is a stretch of nearly 30 kilometres (18 miles) of white sandy beaches and calm water known as Costa da Caparica.
Often referred to as Lisbon’s Copacabana, this collection of beaches is extremely popular with city-dwellers, each with their own beach bar/restaurant where one can enjoy some Ameijoas à Bulhão Pato (clams) during the midday sun or sip a cool drink while watching the sun set – it’s hard to believe that such fantastic beaches are a short drive from the Portuguese capital. However, Costa da Caparica was missing a high-end restaurant to call its own. Until now.
Celebrity Chef Olivier just opened a new restaurant on the beach that promises to bring high-quality food to the sands of Caparica. The sea view makes an already pretty appetizing menu look even better – the typical Amêijoas, the Prawns al Ajillo, the black rice with shrimp and clams or the skewered squid and shrimp are complemented by an even more impressive cocktail menu, that included Mojitos and an incredibly refreshing green apple sangria.
Private beds and straw huts are also available in an exclusive area just in front of the restaurant, that can fit 2 to 4 people and include a welcome kit.
The “Beach Club” concept is further established by the inclusion of a dedicated area with a resident DJ and by the trendy and upmarket feel of the decor.
On the drive back, don’t miss the beautiful sunset over the river when you’re crossing the bridge – it’s truly one of those memorable moments.
